I'm doing it back to front, starting with the price;hence the £200 which is my absolute upper limit.

With my current scanner, I find 300dpi seems satisfactory for scanning normal size photos. Interestingly, it will go up to 600 dpi but the results seem to contain artefacts such as banding. OK, lets say the best possible scanner for use with colour photos with an upper size of 10" x 8", but generally 6 x 4 and 7 x 5.
