Yeh thats the old fashioned way of doing it.....

I'm sure I saw a gui to set up network shares : please excuse me as I'm new to the gui side myself but have been using linux shell for over 10 years too long to remember.

search for
"gnome samba"
"kde samba"
etc etc

This is a top idea : There are a lot of smart guys on here who have knowledge in different areas... I'm hopeless giving newb advice as I've never used the easy route until now but I'm still learning heh.
