My nvidia displays a nice warning when it's not getting enough power... something along the lines of certain features being disabled due to lack of power. You click OK, and another pop-up appears to replace it just as quickly.
That's how I knew it was time to replace my PSU (shame cause it was a very nice, virtually silent Antec 380W, but it just didn't want to work with my card
)
