If you want to be at the bleeding edge in PCLinuxOS, visit the forums search for repos and enable the unstable & thac repos in Synaptic (or edit /etc/apt/sources.list)...

If you can't find them let me know & I'll post a list...

XFCE & Fluxbox are good lightweight WMs/DEs...
