Complete Story

About time

Ubuntu/Kubuntu users, uninstall Flash 7 first then copy libflashplayer.so, as root, from the GZipped Tarball on the download page to "/usr/lib/firefox/plugins/". If using Konqueror, tell it to scan for plugins under Settings > Configure Konqueror > Plugins > Scan for New Plugins after you've copied it to the Firefox plugins directory. If you click on the "Plugins" tab, you should see it come up under "Netscape Plugins" as "/usr/lib/firefox/plugins/libflashplayer.so".

So far only one or two Flash 8 & 9 animations have crashed Konqueror, otherwise most of it is fine. I've also noticed the sound delay in Flash movies is now fixed.
