with regards to the set top box and cable modem, as far as im aware you can no longer have broadband fitted through the set top box on a new installation on any platform.
even if you move house you will be installed with a cable modem even if you had it through the stb before.

im not sure but i think its got something to do with the speeds being upgraded over time and the limits of the set top boxes (even the samsungs)
