I think you are on the right lines.

Just asked one of the lads to try again and a windows speech bubble appeared stating:

"Windows was unable to save all the data for the file \\*******.ldb. The data has been lost. This error may be caused by a failure of your computer hardware or network connection. Please try to save this file elsewhere."

This makes sense now as the unaffected computer was off when the lightning struck.
