They may well be laughing, but you're probably one of the very few NTL customers the staff/management know by name!! A little laughter goes a long way - I'm sure a letter like this has more impact than 1,000 "straight complaints" would. Steve probably finds it more difficult to respond tho.

It certainly amused me - I wish some of the complaints I had to deal with at work were a little more amusing (I might even respond to them a bit quicker).
