Hi Diesel,
The point of both of the letters I did was to embarrass NTL. The reason for this is that they don't seem to care about people ringing up to complain to Customer Service which is proven by sites like this one and NTL hell. These letters have clearly been effective as I got rang by a senior member of NTL management about it, and offered the chance to break my contract - I think that counts as being taken a little bit seriously. I'm not having a go at the individual NTL staff as they'd been ill-informed but rather at the way the company conducts it's business.
The reason I felt compelled to do something about this is that I feel that a phone company should not be a source of nuisance phone calls. It's a ludicrous situation brought about by unending corporate greed. I'm no socialist but I do think companies like NTL are these days relying on the fact that they're all as bad as each other and hence they don't really care about people "voting with their feet". For every NTL customer that gets ****ed off and leaves, there'll be a BT one heading the other way. They provide an essential service. I don't like the fact that a company like NTL rely on people like me deciding it's too much hassle to stop them behaving in a way I don't like. They are breaking OFCOM regulations, it's my right as a consumer to complain about it and I have done so and will continue to do so.
Oh, and I know NTL are laughing at me, but you see, that's kind of the point. I happen to know for a fact that my last letter got forwarded round a lot of NTL staff and an issue a lot of them had no idea existed, they now all know about.
