Acronis True Image 7.0

Computeractive are offering a free download of this, which I have duly taken advantage of. However, one little tip that may be of use. When I tried to create a Bootable Recovery CD using it, it kept coming up with an error message saying that it could not do it; there was no clue as to why this was so. Anyway, a trawl through the Acronis forum suggested that some other program might be nipping in first and grabbing control of the drive.

So, what you need to do is as follows:

When you reach the stage where it says to insert a CD-R, insert the CD but do not close the drive. Instead, click Proceed in Acronis. This will close the drive and, as it seems to solve the problem, ensure that Acronis takes control of the drive.
