Question Ubuntu - Can't gain network access to second PC via Windows XP PC

I have installed Ubuntu on my old PC, this is connected to my main PC by cross-over cable.

I'm 99% of the way there: I have managed network printing from Ubuntu. I can save via that PC onto my Windows XP's shared drive and internet connection is shared OK :-)

The bad news - I can't gain access from XP machine to Linux I can 'see' it listed in Windows Network/MSHome, but can't 'explore'/gain any access. Windows prompts for user name and PW, I have entered my Linux logon Id & PW to no joy, but wonder if I should be putting in a different path name at all? \\PC2\????? maybe \\PC2\usr\share or similar. Don't yet understand the 'structure' of this.

Have tried everything I can think off, just can't get to this final stage - which is the most important bit!

Any help greatly appreciated, but please be gentle as I am a total novice/dunce at Linux (tried previously and gave up), but am now so close to doing what I want. I'm assuming SAMBA is installed correctly as I can see Win XP PC etc.

Cheers
