Yes they do have broadband, the modem when connected to the laptop by cat5 cable works fine.

There is a 3 way STB connection behind the TV, one to the wall, one to the set top box and one to the modem (in another room)

Will try a factory reset

The router is a Linksys WRT300n version 2 (Silver) on some sites it's shown as a WRT300n-UK which mine doens't say now i'm hoping that mine wasn't made for the European market cos it doesn't say UK at the end. Will email Linksys with serial number and find out....
