Swapping Telephone numbers in the Same House

Hi Guys..

Im looking for some advice from any Telecoms Tech who may know this one.

I currently have 2 NTL telephone numbers connected to my house. One is for personal the other for small home based business/fax.

I have recently swapped my rooms over and what used to be my living room is now my office/study and vice versa.

I would like to swap the numbers over so they are in different rooms, if that makes sense. At the moment, my fax number is in my lounge and my personal number is in my office/study.

What needs to be done to achieve this?

First NTL advised me it could all be done from there end within 24 hours... this did not happen. I phoned back and was then told I would need an engineer visit, but then immediately told I would not and to wait 24 hours again for them to be swapped. Waited another 24 hours and still nothing.

Spoken to NTL again, who have now advised that an engineer visit IS needed and one as been subsquently booked. Is an engineer needed?

If an engineer is needed, would they need to relay any cable as I would prefer this not to happen as ive recently decorated and had new carpet fitted (My own fault, should have got phones sorted first I know). The CSR said that NO cable would need to be relayed.

Im not a tech so I wouldnt know, but couldnt they just swap the cables over in the cabinet at the end of the road?

If somebody could explain what the procedure is for swapping numbers over, I would be gratefull.

Thanks very much,

James
