Perhaps not but it's his future United are also paying for. It's not just about Euro 2004, he's proven in the last 2 seasons he's a hot prospect. I won't be drawn on whether I think he's worth the fee but assuming he stays at United for the rest of his career which on average would last about another 15+ years, it's not such an unwise investment
in principle.
