Is there any validity in what he says about the virus being small enough to pass through the fibres of a condom? I don't know although I feel he may be mistaken.
On the whole subject - no-one ever got pregnant or contracted a STI through abstinance.

First of all I (hope) that I made it clear that this view was not help by most members of the church
Also as for validity, it is not really true. The vatican took a report and seriously misquoted a report and took it out of context as well as changing the results
The report did a test, on the bad condoms that had 'holes' in them a small amount of water got though also in these test there was more pressure than a real life situation. Thats where the figure of 5% got though. Also this tested the WHOLE surface of the condom. the important parts have a lot better chance of stopping the virus
But HIV is 5% bigger and there is not enough pressure. First of all you need to get a condom with a hole in (it is impossible for anything to pass though one without a hole) the chances of getting a hole are around 500 to 1. Then the chances of the virus was a extremely rare chance of getting through. All the tests showed the virus did not get through. Then enough has to actually get though. Basically the chance is much smaller than 0.1% and thats if you get a bad condom
Much lower the the "35%"for all condoms claimed by the vatican
