I don't know, but I do recall at one time them saying that such requests should be posted in a forum that was open to anyone to read!
You can imagine the all those people being so willing to post messages like "please add alt.binaries.pictures.sex-with-soft-toys to your group list"...!
If I were you I'd dump ntl's news server all together and switch to
http://news.individual.net/ who are very reliable and also very good at blocking newsgroup spam.
You have to e-mail them and you may have to wait a few days for them to add you to their lists, but it's well worth while.
