Now that I have 1mb, will I soon get the 1gb cap letter as I have been downloading willy-nilly? But that will be another story if or when it happens.

Err are you sure that BT have to come to you to port your number?
Surely that can be done at the exchange?
When I had my old BT number ported to NTL they didn't have to come out to me, all I had to do was fill in a form and pay the £20 fee.
