Seeing as I work in a department that deals with cancellation requests, I can refute this.

Whilst one cancellation won't make a company go and cry into its beer all night, every cancellation matters and the company will do all it can to keep existing customers as well as acquire new ones. I've personally seen the effort that goes into getting faults fixed, getting accounts sorted, etc, all to resolve one issue for one customer, if it wasn't important then why would anyone bother?

It's not always possible to price match every deal a competitor may offer. Sometimes what is on offer is not actually a comparable service, for example.
