Re: world war II

Myself and a couple of friends had talked about going over to Normandy for the commerations. My mate Joe's wife is American and was well up for the trip, so much so that her father (who was a Ranger during Vietnam) is comming over. Unfortunately, about 3 months ago I learned that there is nowhere left to stay in Normandy. Every hotel, motel, B&B, and campsite has benn booked in advance.

When we where disgussing where to go and what to see, Peggy was up for all the usual places, Point du Hoc, Omagh and Utah Beaches, the American War Cemetaries etc. Then Joe and I chipped in and noted she wasnt going just to the american sector of the invasion area. That there where places we wanted to see like, The Marne Bridges (Pegasus Bridge), Carpique, Falaise, and the German Military Cemetary where Hauptsturmfuhrer Michael Whittmann is burried. Plus while we where in the area we though a trip the Somme Battlefield and the cemetaries there would be a worthwhile excursion.

The shocking thing about all this was that Peggy had never heard of most of the places we talked about visiting, and certainly none of the noteable places in the British sector of the Invasion sector.

Typicl bloody yanks.
