Re: Connection for Sony ICE?

You don't say what car you got, but basically:

The stereo is a standard size, so it should fit. Most cars nowadays build their stereos into the dash, so may need a "dash kit". which covers the gaps that are left, when you remove the old stereo. (Although strictly speaking you don't need it, it just looks nicer and makes it harder to steal).

Also, if your existing stereo has two holes on either side of the uni (like old Fords do), then you need the prong tool, and they are really hard to get hold of outside the industry. (Helps prevent theft), so if you need one of those, you are better off getting it done professionally.

Once you got the old one out, as SMH says, you need a ISO block harness kit. It automatically wires the outputs on the head unit, to your speaker setup. Like he said though, it is only on newer cars. If you don't have the ISO speaker block in your car, you'd need to by the ISO harness kit, cut off the speaker block end, and splice all the wires together with wire joiners.

Basically, if you have a new car, all you need is the ISO block harness kit, and the facia, but if you have an older car, you might want to consider professional install. It will only take them about 20 mins, and they normally charge 20-30 quid plus parts, but at least it saves you the agro, and you know you won't damage your original one ripping it out.

Here is an example of what you should be looking out for:

And if you want a fancy harness kit (if your original stereo has remote control or external displays: http://www.halfords.com/opd_category.asp?root=1&id=47
