On the topic, I've just read the most excellent "A Hat Full of Sky", the latest book by Terry Pratchett (and a follow up to The Wee Free Men).
As I may have mentioned before it's a "book for children", not a "children's book" and is *entirely* worth a read. It's funny, clever, not patronising and very *very* well written.

Well, yes, I was kidding slightly. I once glanced (and glanced is the operative word) at
Finnegans Wake and decided that it wasn't for me. Any book that requires buying a guide to it first is not for me. OK, I did read
Portrait of the Artist as a Young Man many, many years ago.
