Re: What DVD surrond sound ???
Agreed. Even if you buy a cheapo DVD player for 50 quid, as long as it's got digital out, then hooking it up to a DTS/Dolby Digital surround amp will still sound pretty good.
You can pick up quite a reasonable DD amp now for £150, then the speakers of course!
My set up is as follows:
Sony DTS 5.1 Reciever
Sony DVD Recorder
B&W 601's on the front
B&W Centre speaker
B&W mini rears
AIWA Active sub
I've kinda built it up over time, but this set up sounds sweeter than most cinemas I've been to.
If you're going down this route, you need to be careful to match the kit correctly. I started with a fnatastic pair of Sony floorstander speakers, then wanted to buy the surround amp. Went for a Yamaha which at the time had five stars in What HiFi. It sounded absolutely terrible.
Took the amp back, got the B&W 601's instead, then the Sony amp - perfect match.
Be sure whoever you're buying from offers you the chance to listen to the kit at home, as well as instore - and will do exchanges if you're not happy with it.
