Correction - access point DID work, until the computer was rebooted - contacted Netgear, said we need a router rather than an access point
Decided not to bother with it, my gf finishes uni in 3 weeks anyway, gonna try the AEI USB adaptor in her Mac, if that doesn't work then tough.
