Everything is working again now. Engineer was due between 1pm and 4pm, but he turned up at 9am as he lives a couple or roads away. Frees up my afternoon anyway
He said that normally BT switch the number over and leave the line as it is for a year or so in case they have to move it back, but as I've been with NTL for 3 or 4 years they have used the circuit, or whatever, for someone else. He had to pop off to the box in the road and switch things back. Normally he said it could all be done remotely, but when they've switched it over like this it requires an engineer. Now all I have to do is order my ADSL. He said I'm within 1km of the exchange so should be able to get whatever speed I want, which I knew anyway as I had it before and knew the exchange is only about 750m up the road!
