For me it has worked out brilliantly that tv and telephone are together.
I have a Tivo that needs to dial out every night and the free line i get from ntl with my television service comes in handy since the phone call is free.
If there was no telephone line i would have needed to pay line rental to BT for nothing as it were.
So in my situation this has worked out well.
