IMHO it wouldnt hurt to split the signal and get the MATV signal into the TV. That is if it is done properly.
But the biggest problem i see time and again is that people dont use the correct tools (which can be expensive). This often results in a badly stripped cable and a connector that isnt crimped on properly. Very often the first thing to be affected as the result of a badly made connector is the bottom range of frequencies including the return path spectrum, this means .......no broadband connection.
The theory is that you simply split the cable using a 1ghz two way splitter and run a connector to the tv as well as the modem . The other thing to consider is that if you are near the end of the modems ability to range up its power level you may still lose the return path signal even if the connectors are made properly. The modem will need to power up an additional 3dbmv (approx) after having the 2 way splitter fitted.
