I haven't updated the firmware yet as the connection hasn't dropped again since Friday(Monday now) so i guess i will wait until it happens again..
Btw..i've very rarely had a connection drop from NTL and STB before installing the router..

Putting the router in the system shouldn't make any difference to the connection, after all the router is AFTER the STB isn't it. I have a CM not an STB and my setup is
NTL----CM---ROUTER/FIREWALL----SWITCH----lot's of pc's
