Got through to NTL after a few minutes. The guy who answered the phone wasn't aware of the letter, but rather worryingly confirmed it was from them anyway. I pushed the point and he went off to find someone senior.

After about five minutes someone who introduced himself as Gary Humphries came on the line. He confirmed that the letters started to go out to customers on Thursday last week. He also asked me if there was another number on the letter other than the one I called. When I confirmed this he said it was to the same office as the 0845 number, but went through to a team who were aware of the letters. He didn't ask any questions about my usage, but I had been very clear I just wanted to confirm the letter's origin. After that I hung up.

Surprising the front-end guys didn't know about the letters. However, I could have just got through to someone who doesn't read memo's and the like. My friend in the Narrowband dept certainly knew.
