My journey with NTL began about 10 years ago when they were promoting their service in our area. We signed up for telephone service and were impressed with the costs of course.
when installing the phone they said although we were not having the tv service they would prepare it anyway so we were not using arial and watching via cable, so would be ready to go if we ever wanted it.
The first thing that went wrong was we were edging the front lawn one Sunday and cut through the cable which they had placed aprox. 2 inches into the ground.
Thats when we first discovered how great their customer service was! 3 days, more or less constantly in a public phone box, and one week later we managed to get a call to re lay the cable.
The next event was when I had just come out of hospital after an op. and was concerned about being without a phone- and sod's law it broke down. Another week without!
Next thing, you will like this one, One Saturday evening we were relaxing and watching TV when it just went completely into a snow storm with no sound.
I had heard NTL were working in the area-could this be a connection?? or am I just being cynical??
I called customer service after a couple of hours on the phone - yes they admitted it was. The coversation went a little like this ( I have left out my bad language)
So when can I have a service call then?
'BUT YOU DON'T HAVE OUR TV SERVICE'
'I know but your engineer connected it to the cable in stead of the arial'
'But you don't have our TV service so we wont send an engineer out'
.......
2 days later the TV returned to normal, but they had disconnected the phone!!!!!!!!
Next thing, am I mad or what? I thought I would go for NTL Broadband.
To cut a veeery long story short- we eventually got a modem that was working (3rd try) but connection speed about snail like. My efforts to set up a direct debit took 12 months and about £50 worth of phone calls.
I moved house in November and although I was told NTL Broadband was available in my new area, they then decided it wasn't, so I went to BT where I have been happy ever since...except.....I am still getting bills from NTL and this morning instead of a Valentine, I got a threatening letter saying my credit rating may be affected if I do not pay a bill for their service 2 months after it had been disconnected!!!
