To share the connection with more than one computer you need something called NAT or Network Address Translation ...

You could connect the access point to a router and share the connection but I dont think that what you have is going to work..

This is the basic set up.

I have no idea as to what is what as I was basically given the stuff and told to get on with it. I wasn't aware a router was needed and only had basic instructions to follow (which seemed pretty adequate until it came to the crunch)

It is a set top to answer part of question two. At this precise moment the host pc is unplugged from the network (I lost connection somehow and gave up) and I have direct connection to the laptop.

As to question 1 that is a very good possibility as I wasn't sure what I was supposed to be putting so thinking back through the fog that seems pretty relevant. Also if you have the patience it would be helpful if you explained in blonde terms. Whether it's the scrambled brains or the last few strands of blonde inbetween the fast appearing grey I'm sort of lost with tech speak. I'm not usually so thick
