You can get software that will turn your Palm into a universal remote control. There is one by Phillips (ProntoLite) and there are others available. Make sure that you try out the trial versions first though. My TV and DVD player have sensitive enough IR receivers that it will work, my NTL box and audio decoder need the Palm held about an inch away from the reciever, so for me it's not a viable option.
Another option, if you don`t have wireless net access available, is to sign up for something like AvantGo so you can sync offline versions of various news feeds to the Palm and read them offline.
I`m currently trialling the PDA version of Radio Times, it updates the listing everytime you sync your PDA. The first 2 week trial is free, after that it is 15 quid a year, so I`m not yet sure if I will stick with it. However, it is handy if I don`t want to check the listings on the web, and is quicker than the NTL EPG.
