IP allocation + service query
The wealth of knowledge on this site is truely impressive so I thought I'd ask a couple of questions.
I have read that till the new IP address's are released NTL are buying them in other coutries to make up for the shortfall. I checked this using the who is tool and entering my IP. It came up registering in Europe somewhere, no not the UK. Does anyone know anything about this? FYI at the moment this is my IP info: netname: NTL descr: NTL Brentford - CABLE HEADEND country: GB Also does anyone know what is happening with Broadband and TV in Reading at the moment, the last few days the service has been patchy. Apparently the local server is not over-subscribed. I noticed that there are a few users who live around Reading e.g. Bracknell and wondered how their service was. Thanks all:monkey: |

In which case, which country was in registered to? |
Re: IP allocation + service query
Its just a RIPE allocation. My IP indicated the RIPE was registered in NL (holland).
It's nothing to worry about... |

These organisations then sub allocate these blocks to the major network providers (such as NTL). They may then choose to further sub allocate them to their customers (on a need to have basis). RIPE's major blocks are n.x.x.x where n is 62, 193, 194, 195, 80, 81, 212, 213, 217 and most recently 82, 83 & 84. At the moment they are allocating from the 83.x.x.x range, with 84 still being spare. RIPES HQ is in Amsterdam so all their IP ranges will ultimately trace back to the Netherlands. |
Thank Richard M, badnbusy, Avatar, and perm.
Thank you to all who replied. I'm sorry my orignal query wasn't quite as clear as I'd hoped but you answered my query perfectly.
I included my current info to show I wasn't pulling the idea of my IP registering in another country out of the air. I would also like to say that during the problems in my local area, every time I contacted CS, they were very helpful and considered every problem I threw at them. The only thing I can add from working in call centres is that tone and patience is very important, I've never moaned or bitched at CS and in return I have recieved a high level of service. Those here who work in CS for NTL should be proud of the service you provide.:D |
