When you call tech support to get your password, you will need to ensure that the internet account holder is (note: this can be different to the bill payer) present, otherwise they will decline to give it to you, under the terms of the DPA.

Try thinking about it, even better look at a working Outlook Express and see what is says for your password a string of ******* perhaps? So its possibly intended to tell people who have set up their Dial Up access or Mail Clients with the "remember this password automatically" option? They work fine but what do the *s mean How would they find out what those *'s mean - would it be useful to have it mailed to them? |

You asked "am I missing something" and I am pointng out circumstances when the ntlworld facility DOES come in useful ;-) I use dial up so when I register on the DUN setting ther is a tickbox which says "save password", similar on OE. If everything works but you cannot remember what those ****s mean THEN the facility is usefuls (which is what I said above). You asked you got an answer ;-) |
Re: NTL Very clever
Have you tried one of those password recovery tools or the astrix(sp?) remover ones?
If you've clicked on remember my password it should work. |
Re: NTL Very clever

Re: NTL Very clever
Icanadvise: There is a program called "Revelation" that reveals all masked passwords. Its a brilliant little prog, and I use it a lot. The version I use is 1.1. It's real old, and only like 15k
The guy has released a new version though, which you can download from here (note it is snad, NOT sand) You just drag the the cursor over the ******s and it reveals the password. Just so you know, when i tried the new Version 2, zonealarm caught it trying to connect to the net. I've no idea why. I can post the original 15k version, that doesn't use the net, or you can look on a search engine. |
Re: NTL Very clever
Just as an off-side, how do you suggest that ntl give the password to you when you click on the link?

indeed it is clever , i also wonder why it would want to connect to the net  , anyway i just stopped it with the firewall :) |
Re: NTL Very clever
reminds me of the DOS bootup message: "error keyboard not found.. press F1 to continue" ;)

1. Your customer ID 2. Your address 3. Your broadband setup password (this isnt the same as the w12121212121 style password you get given when you sign up your account, its the one stored on their account, that you give the sales guy) 4. Your last bill amount Whole loads of stuff really, they could jsut ask 3 random questions out of that list, and it would be pretty unlikely that someone else would know them all. paulyoung666: the only thing i can think of, is that its checking for updates. There is a button to do that, and I guess the sockets are initialised on startup, rather than when you click the button. Still, doesn't matter to me, my 15k version 1.1 works just peachy :) |
