Media PLayer Problem

Good Evening Chaps!

I have an annoying problem where, whenever I play any media file in Media Player, it buffers as though a lot the system's resources are being used at the same time (they're not - it happens when nothing else is open).

I've also noticed that cpu usage whilst Media Player is playing is up to 70%.

This happens whatever file i try to play.

Please help!!

Thanks

Metty

If you have the visualisation on and an old graphics card this can slow you down a lot.

EDIT: I just did a quick test and I get 28% CPU usage with visualisations and 2% without.

the thing is, it never used to do this - it only started about 2 months ago...

What Operating system is it and have you checked for apps running in the background? Spyware, trojans etc. Was anything installed 2 months ago that could have altered any settings?

xp home...i ran spybot - it found a few things, nothing major, so i corrected thos yet it still does it.

I've installed a few things in the past couple of months, but (presumably) nothing that would affect media player settings...these include Champ Man0304 and an imaging application i got with my digi cam.

My first thought was the fact that i only had 1.5Gb of hard drive memory left, but having deleted another 6Gb, the problem remains...

Try this: http://support.microsoft.com/default...b;en-us;832353

EDIT: Just had a proper read of that and I think don't think its that relevant (I need some  )

Could be a codec problem?

i understood where you were coming from with regard to this - it says the fix is for 100% cpu usage...downloaded it anyway but to no avail!!!

do you mean a codec problem with the files i'm trying to play as they're the same files that used to play fine.
