Static IP?

Hi,

I need to set my router to 'Static IP' for 10 minutes to test some software, but before I can do this I need to find my Subnet Mask & Gateway address.

Where can I find these?

I am running XP so winipcfg donÃƒÆ’Ã†â€™Ãƒâ€šÃ‚Â¢ÃƒÆ’Ã‚Â¢ÃƒÂ¢Ã¢â€šÂ¬Ã…Â¡Ãƒâ€šÃ ‚Â¬ÃƒÆ’Ã‚Â¢ÃƒÂ¢Ã¢â€šÂ¬Ã…Â¾Ãƒâ€šÃ‚Â¢t work tried ipconfig /all, but that gives me my settings assigned by the router.

I want to use the settings as if no router was there, the settings I would get from ntl when running ipconfig /all.

I assume you mean you want to store your dynamic ip into your router as a static ip.

The submet mask is usually 255.255.255.0

I think but am not certain that the Gateway will be like this x.x.x.254

Each octet of the ip address can go upto 255 and I think the gateway is usually 254. the x.x.x represents the first three octets of your ip address for example if ure ip address is 62.11.29.10 then ure gateway is probably 62.11.29.254

unless you are absolutely sure you know what u r doing with your router then get a second opinion before taking my advice. Obviously if you know what u r doing and u try setting the gateway and subnet masks to the value i suggest and they dont work u can remove then and still get back online :)
i am not an expert just an experienced user :)

you should find the gateway and subnet mask somewhere though in ure routers config or status pages

I've included an attachment of my router config page which shows the subnet mask and and ip address. ive removed my ip address for obvious reason :)

what router do you have.

i think i have once tried setting my router 2 static ip out of curiosity and it worked fine for me providing u get the subnet mask and gateway correct.

The Linksys status page in its internal configuration website shows you what IP address, subnet mask and gateway it has been assigned.

But I think you should explain what it is that you are trying to achieve by this change, as you might be labouting under a misconception.

If you set a static address, it will only work for a short while, until NTL's systems notice and cut you off.

Setting a static address in the router is not going to make any difference to this scenario. The defect is with the design or programming of the server, which ought to provide the server operator with the ability to tell the server what its true WAN IP address is. You should tell users to attempt their login to the WAN address of your router, then the port-forwards will redirect their calls to the server on your LAN.
