Monitor Refresh Rate Trouble

Here's a puzzle that has got be stumped, and I`m sure someone on here will have the knowledge to be able to help me out.

I've recently upgraded my PC to XP from Win98. The graphics card is a Geforce 2MX, the monitor is a Iiyama S900MT1. The latest Nvidia drivers are installed and the display properties are confirming that the monitor drivers have been installed correctly.

This combination is capable of displaying 1600 x 1200 in 75Hz and always was happy to give me that option under Win98. However, now it has a tendency to drop down to 70Hz. I can give the system a nudge and kick it back up to 75Hz but it is quite annoying to have to do so. I've set the refresh rate overrides in the Nvidia control panel for this resolution to 75Hz but that doesn`t guarantee that the mode will run in that refresh rate.

Does anyone have any ideas as to what I can else I can possibly tweak to ensure that I always get my desired refresh rate.

Many thanks in advance for any suggestions.

Windows uses a .inf file to give it the monitor capablilites. I would look for it on the monitor makers web site. My hansol 21" wont go to the higher rates without the driver !

How do you mean "give the system a nudge" exactly?

The latest monitor drivers from the Iiyama site have been downloaded and installed.

I can either set-up a custom resolution and get it to work that way, or sometimes it will work by getting the control panel to show me the resolutions it doesn`t think this monitor is capable of displaying and going about it that way.

*edit* Quick follow up, looks like it was sheer foolishness on my part. I think what had happened is that when it was searching for the monitor drivers it picked up the old ones on my previous C: drive which is now the F: drive following the new OS install. I guess these were pre-XP ones which it accepted up to a point, but didn`t complain that they were not quite correct.

Forcing it again to look at the most recently downloaded ones appears to have done the trick.

Thanks to both of you for taking the time to offer some advice.
