304 Bios Error

This error message came up on my compaq 6000 upon turning the machine on.... supposed to be a keyboard error or something - i'm not the most techie person!!!

i tried a new keyboard with it, but still the same message.

anyway i fiddled around with the plug and temporarily fixed it, but then froze again whilst i was typing in a word document.

i've just got an optical mouse that plugs into ps2 through an adaptor for a usb plug, so i removed the adaptor and plugged the mouse in via usb.

this seems to have corrected whatever was wrong, but my friend reckons i should reset my bios settings to default.

how would i go about doing this??!! and has anyone any more suggestions so that this won't happen again??

thanks

Metty

Re: 304 Bios Error

If you want to reset your bios to default they sould be an option in the bios to do this.

I doubt it will cure the problem

304 is a keyboard error

on compaq's hitting F2 on the keyboard gets you into the bios.

Hit the F2 key after it checks the memory

here is a list of bios error codes

Re: 304 Bios Error

If the keyboard isn't working for long enough to get you into the bios there should be a jumper on the motherboard to clear the BIOS settings.
