cd rom problems

Tried to run a game today, but it wouldn't start. Said to insert the disc. This I did, eggtimer for a few seconds and then the game splash screen closed. 2 drives installed are lg cdrw and pioneer dvdrw. They both play music cd's, record ok and read data discs ok. Any ideas anyone? Running xp pro, norton 2003 for a/v and firewall.

Has the game ever worked?

Can you try the disc on another machine, a friends perhaps?

Just one thought though. A copied disc may throw that error up. Is it a copy?

Have you tried a system restore? Have you installed any new software lately? Or more likely any updated graphics drivers? Have you tried re-installing the game?

If you've tried those things then try the game manufaturers website for common problems.

Have you added any new drives recently ? If you have you may find that the drive letters have changed. Most games will write there .ini files to look for a drive letter.

Could be the problem....

hi
what game ?
i had a similar problem trying to play unreal11 and enter the matrix.

problem...a possible conflict between anti-piracy measures and the nero software for my cd-rw.

fixed it by uninstalling the nero software.

interestingly the games worked when i reinstalled nero.

the games were gta3 and gp500. have since done a format and reinstall....all's well now, no harm done. Guess it's just a windows thing. Thanks for all advice offered.
