You should'nt have to "clone" anything.. the only MAC address that is important to your NTL account is the cable modem.. the rest should all be untouched.

unless you have reset the router it will still be setup as before and should work

Bit late...but actually you should clone the MAC address of the last device connected to your CM before any changes. If that last device was the same router you are using now then no change and no cloning required.

Well, if its STB then you will need to use the MAC(s) registered at ntl.

If its a SACM then it doesnt matter what the MAC address of your equipment is. As long as yoou havnt changed it more than 3 times recently. ( if you change it more than 3 times and the dhcp gives an IP to each MAC address you wont be able to receive any more IP addresses until one of the first 3 has expired)

The default MAC of the router will be fine if its SACM.

I've NEVER had to clone any MAC addresses, changed NICs & added router without cloning anything!! Why clone when there is no need??

That's a good question...in fact I was only trying to answer the first posters query.

Cloning is generally used when accessing internet via an STB where a MAC address requires registering to the ntl servers. Cloning (supposedly) avoids re-registering a new / replacement device (PC or router) with ntl.

It didn't actually work when I tried it a few months ago .. I broke the ntl database !!!!
