HDD Problems

Bought disk drive today put in computer ok but it reads as about 2.5BG when its is supposed to be 40GB!
This may be something to do with not using the installation disk, but I dont know how to use a boot disk using Windows XP ie. not booting from my existing drive
Advice please :(

Re: HDD Problems

i think your jumper settings on the actual hard disk are incorrect, look in the manual or on the hard disk unit itself, it should tell you where to put the jumpers in what position for a master(primary boot drive) or slave(secondary drive)

Re: HDD Problems

You all forgot the vital question.

!! How old is the motherboard !! . This could be a bios limit problem as if the limit was on the disk it would usualy apear as 30gb

Thanks for all the help and all that
Found out the problem, was actually 4.5GB drive, someone must have changed stickers round and what not because there was remains of a large sticker on the drive around the transferred 40GB sticker, hell damn crap

Re: HDD Problems

Yeah, wasn't too happy either. Taking it back tomorrow so may swap it or more probably go to a different shop, seeing as they don't inspect goods, because seems as though someone bought it, swapped it and returned it

the model no. reported by your device manager WDC AC32500H

is shown in here

http://www.ixbt.com/storage/hdd_spec.html#q1

as a 2.4 GB drive:spin:

the sticker number is for a 40 GB drive - I would consider reporting them to trading standards, myself, but see what they come up with in sorting it out for you, first - they may offer you an 80 GB for the same price. Failing that, you are entitled to a refund under the sale of goods act, because the 'goods were not as described' - again any problems here, involve your TSO.

Got refund so can't complain, I think I'll go to local independent computer store to get what I need from now on though, most things are cheaper, except disk drives
