static ip addresses
Does not offer static ip addresses, last time I rang before I wanted the broadband service they asked me to speak to the business department.
If so how much does this cost |
Re: static ip addresses
You'll still need a business broadband service with NTL, afaik there is no way you can get a static IP with their residential bb, no idea of cost's, have you tried ringing their business dept.?

Re: static ip addresses
why do you want a static IP?
Theres isn't a lot you can't do with a dynamic IP, just use a service called dynamic DNS from a place such as www.dyndns.org, it's free to use and it will map a url to a dynamic IP. Edit: As has also been found out before, even the business package only offers semi-static IP's anyway. Jon |
Re: static ip addresses
there are various reasons for having a static ip, mainly for security purposes when accessing restricted sites.
I have always wondered about ntl's lack of static ip service. |

While I can run my own, reliable, mail service I find I am forced to route mail though NTL's mailservers for domains employing these Dynamic IP listings. Regards, Neil Darlow |

Welcome to the Forum I run my own server and use No-Ip's mail server as an smtp relay. Its only $20.00 for the service and I dont have to rely on NTL's mail servers. Its never let me down (yet) HTH -- LONG LIVE THE PENGIUN -- :) :) :) :) :) |

If you have a mobile phone, check with your mobile-teleco to see if a similar facility exists and if you can use it. As to static IP? You can have a semi-static IP. Well, more static than not. I've got a router between my computer and cable modem (aka. network bridge) and the router does not get turned off, thus a low power device keeps on renewing the IP address assigned to be about 11 months ago. Saves having to have a computer always turned on to keep the IP address that's been assigned to you. Hope that helps. |
