Can't start my NTL webspace
 

Help please. I have just created a little website to use on the 55 Mb of webspace I get from NTL so that I can post pictures etc. I made it on Serif PagePlus which has a built-in publish to web action I have tried the pages in IE and they seem to work fine but when I try to upload it I just get error messages such as †œServer name and address could not be resolvedââ‚à ƒâ€šÃ‚¬Ãƒâ€šÃ‚ÂÂ�.

The †œPublish to Webââ‚Âà ‚¬Ãƒâ€šÃ‚ÂÂ� function asks for

FTP Account
FTP address
Username
Password
Folder

On the NTL help page it gives
homepage URL - homepage.ntlworld.com/user.name
FTP server - upload.ntlworld.com
Username I enter the one I use for email e.g. xxxxx.xxxxxxxx1
Password I enter the one I use for email or account

Can anyone suggest what I should enter into the top two and bottom fields to try to get this loaded?

I have even downloaded the NTL FTP program but it seems to want me to dial up all the time and I'm on STB BB so that won't work either. I'm a bit (lot really)stumped any help please?

One possible cause is the username/password. You must use the original username/password supplied when you first got the service, the long group of random numbers and letters, not the one you changed it to.

You did make a note of that didn't you? If not I believe you may have to contact Ntl to reset your webspace password.

Thanks I've got it in a drawer somewhere, I'll dig it out, can you confirm which FTP things I put in which box please, sorry to be thick but I've never done anything like this before?

Not to sure about Serif...I have always used CuteFtp with very few problems.

I think you should be ok if you simply type the info 'sheep' supplied in the link above into the addressbar of explorer.

If that's the FTP address , What's the FTP account?

Thanks for all the suggestions, I did try all of them but none of them worked so I have email TS and will wait until after Xmas. Thanks again. :)

OK, I am guessing here cos I dont know the App, but try

FTP Account : Anything you want, probably what these settings will be known as within the App. e.g. NTLFTP
FTP address : upload.ntlworld.com ( or ftp://upload.ntlworld.com )
Username : your username
Password : password ( btw, some people find that this is always the original one you setup, even if you have change it for email etc )
Folder : should be able to leave this blank, if not try . ( ie a full stop )

What error message do you get when you try to upload using explorer? Also, if you changed your password, you may want to try both (new and original). For me the changed password works fine...

Which Xmas....2010? I have never, ever had a reply from any email sent to Ntl. Although I do believe such rare species do exist. the phone is the best, if somewhat frustrating way to resolve if the problem is caused by password/username problems.

I tried the from on IE that "sheep" had on the link with old and new names & pwds. The message was

Windows cannot access this folder. Make sure that you typed the name correctly and that you have permission to access the folder. DETAILS: The FTP session was terminated.


Thanks Dooby I tried this with the same result "Server name and address could not be resolved" whichever name & pwd set I used.

For after X-mas maybe, but:

I get that error message if I use a wrong user name (for instance my secondary email address). If I use the proper account name and wrong pasword, I get a pop up box to re-enter the password. So it looks like your user name is rejected. Assuming you are using the correct account name, perhaps your user name is not present in the data base?

Edit: In my case, the correct user name is the primary e-mail address, I was given upon registration.
