Connecting existing PVR to set-top box?
Dear All,
I have moved house recently, and used to get freeview via my aerial. I have a Humax PVR9200 which both did the freeview decoding and my hard-drive recording. The area I've moved to has poor freeview reception. I get telewest phone and broadband anyway, so free TV from telewest seems like a good idea. My question - can I connect my existing PVR/freeview decoder to whatever Telewest will provide? There doesn't seem to be an input to the PVR other than an aerial connection (there are 2 scarts, but I think these are both "output"). Thanks in advance for any help. |
Re: Connecting existing PVR to set-top box?
It looks to me that this PVR can only be used to record off of the Freeview input from what I've read, sorry to be the bearer of bad news.

I dunno whether Telewest has an analog feed. If it does, then split the signal before the STB and feed the PVR

Re: Connecting existing PVR to set-top box?
Does the PVR has a ATT tuner as well as a DTT tuner?
If so, you can connect the rf out of the STB into the aerial socket on the PVR. |
Re: Connecting existing PVR to set-top box?
Sorry to be so new at this, and thanks for the replies, but I'm unsure of what ATT & DTT mean (analog/digital television tuner?). I _guess_ that it only has a DTT, because viewing BBC1 (for example) as decoded by the PVR is patchy, whereas switching the TV through to the analog channels as passed through the PVR results in an OK picture. This presumably means that since the PVR is trying to decode the digital signal, and all there is is the STB generated RF signal, that it won't find anything.
Does an analog cable feed (if available from Telewest) carry both the analog stations and the digital (freeview) signal, allowing the PVR to "decode" the freeview as normal? Does anybody know if Telewest cable has an analog feed? Otherwise it looks like it's ebay for my PVR, and time to get a new one that works off a Telewest cable. |
Re: Connecting existing PVR to set-top box?
that PVR is freeview only & Telewest cable does not carry a freeview signal. The only way you can decode the Telewest digital signal is with a Telewest digital set top box subscribed to a tv package...
