any advice ???????
hello all, its a while since i put a post in here, any of u internet speed gurus etc got any advice on this as I would appreciate your comments:-
Tue, 19 Sep 2006 23:24:23 UTC 1st 128K took 641 ms = 204480 Bytes/sec = approx 1701 kbits/sec 2nd 128K took 141 ms = 929589 Bytes/sec = approx 7734 kbits/sec 3rd 128K took 78 ms = 1680410 Bytes/sec = approx 13981 kbits/sec 4th 128K took 234 ms = 560137 Bytes/sec = approx 4660 kbits/sec These results appear to be rather fast: maybe this page was in the browser cache. To repeat this test from the source server click here. To repeat this test from a web proxy cache (if present): - in Internet Explorer for Windows: - click "Back" - pull down "Tools" menu, select "Internet Options" - click on button "Delete Files..." - click OK, click OK - click "Forward" - in Netscape: - click "Back" - pull down "Edit" menu, select "Preferences" - expand "Advanced" - select "Cache" - click on button "Clear Disk Cache" - click OK - click "Forward" As you can see, I'm obviously an ntl customer, as far as I am aware of, I'm using the same speed test as the ntl engineers use, "Robin Walker". I'm supposed to be on a 10meg connection, thats what I am paying for and have been doing since it came out (10 meg that is). I'm no speed test genius by any means but the tests above are telling me that I'm on a speed that is nowhere near 10meg. The most that I can get out of it is somewhere in the 6meg plus region. The lowest being, upto yet, 305kbps, surely to goodness this isn't right. Its been like this since it was upgraded, as stated above, I would appreciate your thoughts and comments. Thanks. |
Re: any advice ???????
i had the same problem, an hour and a half on the phone to tech support, a tech comes out does some tests, said its running fine and leave.
still no 10mb though:mad: |
Re: any advice ???????
@slugger...You would get a more accurate result if you used the speed test at the top of this page. It downloads a larger file & gives you an average.
Are you using a SACM or STB for your broadband? If it's a SACM you could check your service level on the operation configuration page here:- http://192.168.100.1 (user name & password = root). A 10 Meg service should show Maximum Downstream Data Rate : 10240000 bps . |
Re: any advice ???????
thats better, was using the wrong speed checker, am getting on average 9.5Mb, am very happy with that:D

Re: any advice ???????
Thanks for the info XFS03. After running the test several times, this is the lowest one that its come up with:-
Wed, 20 Sep 2006 16:48:58 UTC 1st 512K took 2078 ms = 246.4 KB/sec, approx 2030 Kbps, 1.98 Mbps 2nd 512K took 1984 ms = 258.1 KB/sec, approx 2127 Kbps, 2.08 Mbps 3rd 512K took 1782 ms = 287.3 KB/sec, approx 2367 Kbps, 2.31 Mbps 4th 512K took 1843 ms = 277.8 KB/sec, approx 2289 Kbps, 2.24 Mbps Overall Average Speed = approx 2203 Kbps, 2.15 Mbps To repeat this test from the source server click here. The highest being 6.39meg overall speed. Any suggestions, the highest speed that I could get out of this speed test was 6.39meg. Suggestions are most welcome. Thanks. |
