TVDrive says full - when it isnt!!!?

Hi - anyone had this problem ..

I have had TVD for 3 months now - gradually software updates making things more stable. However, a few days ago was the first time that i used up nearly all the hard disk capacity (80hrs).

After recording over night, I turned the system on in the morning and it said 'Critical' on the red thermometer/disc space graphic. So i went about deleting a number of films to free up some space.

Problem: I now have only 20hrs of material left recorded - yet it is still claiming my disc is nearly full. I have lost appoximately 50+ hrs of disk space.

I have telephoned Telewest to see if they can help and they say I may need to reformat - which will mean losing all my prize recordings!!

Has this happened to anyone else? Can anyone help?

Thanks

Have you tried pressing the reset button?

And no...I've never had this happen.

This happens sometimes with Sky+. They have a "Planner Rebuild" which frees up the space without deleting any recordings, maybe TVDrive has something similar.

I had a similar problem. One evening the tvdrive decided to record a channel that I didn't set and it wouldn't let me cancel it. My disk space got to around 20hrs so I had to pull the plug. From then on I had all sorts of problems. Removed programs would keep reappearing (although they couldn't be viewed). My disk space meter was tempramental and it suffered from lockup occasionally. I had to resort to what I thought was the only solution and reformat the drive.

Yes I lost everything on the box but setting up program recordings etc. was a breeze with the tv guide. Everything has been okay ever since.

I suggest you call them again and ask for backup all your recorded materials then reformat disk, this not a problem cause tv drive has usualy hard disk if I'm right this is Western Digital.

Stage to to DQ for a reformat. It's the only thing you can do, even if a tech comes for a boxswap you'll lose everything.

So much for the prized tv drive!
Whats the point in having something if you cannot optimise its supposed capability? without having to lose everything you have recorded onto the drive?
I dont think anyone can help aside from what you have already been advised, and if it happens again I would be taking my custom elsewhere.

Have not heard that one, " planner rebuild " ;)
Peoples experience with the tv drive seems to suggest otherwise !

I had this problem a while ago with around 20GBytes going walkabout.

I contacted Telewest and they suggested deleting all recorded programs to see if that freed up the space. If it didn't they said they would reformat remotely - although I see we now have on the forum a note on how to do so.

However, none of this was needed. In the middle of deleting the less prized recordings - and in particular some of the older ones - I was suddenly presented with 2 or 3 large 'recovered' segments of recording - all old recordings that I thought I had deleted.

I was able to delete these successfully, and recover my full capacity.

I have had no significant problems since (about 4 or 5 months).

The hard drive I have in mine is Maxator, and can they ACTUALLY back up your programs for a format or is that a joke?
