Advice please need better deal due to finance problems

Hi all,

I m on NTL phone and 4mb bb and will soon be in some financial problems which may mean I will lose my broadband, does anyone know if NTL would give me a better deal so I could keep my broadband as I think things may improve in 6 to 10 months time. I have heard that some people have been given free phone for a year or reduced broadband but what is the best thing for me to tell them to try and get a good deal.

Should I say that I am switching to another provider or just tell them the truth about my finance problems?

Also what is the section I need to talk to for help as I have heard people mention retentions but dont know what that is.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks.

I would be honest with them and see what they say, also you could think about downgrading the speed of your BB to save a little money

I think I will try the honest approach if they dont give me a better deal then I will have to cancel and that might make them change their mind.

I will report back if I get sorted.;)

Well I phoned up today and was told they would ring me back before 11am.

They did not, so I rang again at 11.20 and told them I was having some financial trouble. Anyway I was told that I could have a discount of £4 off my broadband or pay half price for three months so I took the half price option for now and will see what happens in three months.

So my current deal is phone and 4mb broadband for £23.50 a month.

I had hoped it would have been a better offer than that but I will have to make do with it for now.:(

half price broadband seems to be the normal offer. If you call back in 3 months they will extend the offer ;)

I think that is a good offer Nosepicker and remember you can always downgrade your BB speed to save some money

I dont expect to get it for free if thats what your implying, but look at all the other people who have threatened to leave NTL for Talk Talk and been given similar or better offers. My case is a genuine one(and no I have not delibrately got myself into debt) and I was hoping that as I was a long time customer that they would be able to help in some way, I am happy enough with the offer they have given me and would like to stay with NTL as I have never had any trouble with their service up to now.

If things dont improve then I will also need to downgrade but I cannot get rid of the phone due to its necessity for a family member who is in ill health.

are you a council tenant? I only remembered when I spoke to retentions - Luton council tenants get a discount off their bill of a fiver a month... shame I felt too embarrassed to ask if it could be backdated! my bill is so confusing though..

No I am not a council tenant. Its a work related problem and I am in an appeal process so I have to watch the money, but dont really want to go into personal details on a forum, but hopefully things will be sorted out in the next 6 to 10 months.

I am just been as carefull as I can with my present finances as I dont know what the outcome will be yet.

But I am happy to continue with the offer they have given me at present.

No I agree Orangebird, however ntl allow the less than honest customer get away with a lot more than the honest ones, so I do not think this is an unreasonable request.

hope you get back on your feet soon sir.
