Analogue box changing channels!!!
 
I live in an area where only analogue is available. My problem is that when recording an NTL channel, if I then use the TV remote to change TV channel or turn off the TV, the analogue box changes channels, although the digital number on the front of the box doesnt change. If the TV is turned off this is followed by a complete loss and recording of a blue screen.

NTL say they have done their bit by providing tv and any video problems are my problem and that I should check with the manufacturer of my equipment. All of the connection seem to be correct, but it doesn't explain the channel changes. I can only assume the signal from my TV remote is interfering with the analogue box.

Any advice or comments would be appreciated as at the moment NTL are reluctant to send and engineer.

Hi trl and welcome to the site .what type of analogue box do you have and make of tv and vcr.Also try putting something in front of the analogue box so it bloock the ir signal and set the vcr to tape make sure the box can not change ch with the remote then watch the the tape ;) Hope this helps

As you say the number on the front of the box doesn't change, and that nothing is recorded when the tv is off, it could be the way you have wired your components up. To me it looks like your video is wired up via your tv. ie you have one wire from the stb to your tv and one wire from your video to your tv. what you should do is go from your stb to your video and from the video to your tv.. and if your stb has 2 scarts maybe a direct one from the stb to the tv

I have a General Instrument CFT 2100 which has no scart sockets. This equipment is very basic and looks very cheap!

The video and tv are both Philips and I've never had any problems recording with my previous On Digital/ITV Digital or NTL Digital.

The equipment is wired from wall to stb, stb to video, video to tv.

I'll try blocking the IR signal to the stb but it does look as if the signals are mixed which surprises me. I always thought remotes were configured differently to avoid this sort of problem.

This box does have RCA (phono) outputs for Video and Audio, if you buy a SCART to RCA breakout cable you can connect to your VCR or TV. I have this configuration and it works well.

Where abouts do you live?
If you live in Westminster, I doubt it will ever be upgraded to Digital, if you live in Milton Keynes, then you should get onto NTL and demand discounts and when they are going to upgrade the area as the set top boxes are very old and outdated.
