d-link router with ntl cable modem, help!!!!!

can anyone help, i'm trying to set my NTL cable broadband up as wireless. i've got myself a D-link DI-524 cable router and tried setting it up as per the instructions. I'm getting a wireless signal through to my laptop but i can't access the internet through it. the router seems to be having trouble getting an IP address from the cable modem. i've selected it to run with a dynamic IP but it just keeps searching for one but never getting one. is there something simple i'm missing??
please help it's driving me mad!!
C

i've managed to solve my problem. my cable modem was connected to my desktop with a usb lead which i've removed. I've got my cable modem connected to my router and then the router is connected to my desktop via ethernet lead. it works perfectly now. i've got a perfect signal on my laptop.
