Slow speeds on eMule
Hi there.
I'm getting slow speeds with eMule. Download is max 150k/sec at the best of times, and upload is limited to maybe 5-10k/sec! I have NTL 10Mb broadband, and otherwise it seems to work okay. Can upload to web space at 60k/sec, download from usenet at 900k/sec+. Anyone got any idea what is wrong? What are the best settings for NTL? I have tried various settings, from the "optimal" 40k up to 5k up, but it makes no difference. |
Re: Slow speeds on eMule
Perhaps you should try eRacingHorse?
Sorry, I couldn't resist... |
Re: Slow speeds on eMule
Are you using the default ports (4662 and 4672 I think???)?
Try chaning them - I have mine set to 54662 and 54672, works a treat for me. Don't forget you also need to setup firewall rules to allow the traffic through on those ports and test the ports (using the test ports button in options, connections). |
Re: Slow speeds on eMule
Thanks Begize, I have set up and tested my firewall and it's all working fine with the correct ports open. I am using ports in the 40000 range, but have tried 50000 and sub 1024 range ports as well with no luck.
I'm starting to wonder if there is a problem with the Cosham system. All off-network downloads seem a lot slower than most people report here. For example, a lot of people can get a full 10 meg from news services like Newshosting, but I can only manage about 4-5 meg. NTLs own news servers are fine though, as is their own web space etc. Portsmouth is full of cheap-ass scummy chavite pikies though, so it's no wonder NTL isn't bothering to upgrade our old network (originally Nynex). |
Re: Slow speeds on eMule
There were issues in a number of areas last night, outages and speed drops. Might be worth trying it again this morning.

Re: Slow speeds on eMule
Cheers Paul, but I have been having this problem for months.
It only seems related to NTL. When I was on ADSL, I had no problems. I think it might have something to do with NTL's upload queues. I have noticed that if you use more than about 20% of your upload bandwidth, it kills your downloads. On ADSL, I could use 80% before that happened. |
Re: Slow speeds on eMule
Try usnin limewire or pm I will find a copy of emule pro ;)

I've been having the same problem with emule of late. One day I was getting great download speeds (and I'm only on the mid-range ntl connection), the next it was struggling badly. Do you share many files yourself? The reason I ask is that I don't, and there seems to be some kind of system for building up your "rating". The more people upload from you, the better your rating. I suspected that I downloaded too much in comparison to what I provided, thereby affecting my ability to download. Check out the help system on emule for more info, although to be honest there's not a helluva lot of explanation reagrding this particular aspect. In fact, there seems to be no actual way of checking out your own "rating" at any given time! ---------- Post added at 12:16 ---------- Previous post was at 12:13 ---------- Oops....I also meant to mention that when I use Limewire, I get great download speeds. Unfortunately, Limewire doesn't seem to be quite as comprehensive as emule (and it's search facility is kak). |
