TVDriver help needed please - 2 things

Hi all - very useful forum, has answered a few questions so far. I'm after some help with 2 final issues please.

Firstly, I am trying to connect via component to my TV (42" non-HD plasma). In standard mode, the picture is completely distorted and further, can only be used if set to 'composite'. Setting the box to component or HDMI does not work at all - makes sense given the non HD TV. Any clues? Telewest tell me that component can only be used with HD tvs, but other people on this forum have reported success using standard mode and component.

Secondly, I used to have a Nintendo gamecube plugged into the VCR scart socket on my old box; turn the box off, gamecube could pass through to the tv as expected. I can't seem to get this to work on the new TVDrive box. Telewest have told be (true to form) firstly that the VCR socket is output only, then another person said that it does indeed pass through and should work fine. They also said that the VCR signal should overide the box even if it is switched on.

Is it becuase I'm not sending a VCR signal through this scart that nothing is happening or is it indeed an output only scart socket? I should point out that the gamecube feed is an analogue cable ending in the red, white and yellow RCA leads, which are then plugged into a little scart adapter, in case that makes a difference.

Any help appreciated!

EDIT: nice way to start life on this forum, a typo in the message title. Sigh :)

I also have a non HD plasma screen, but can get HD to work. I used the HD RGB connections from the TV drive & plugged directly into the screen. You then have to set up via the TV drive. This is a bit tricky in as much as you need to have the screen on the 'old' input 1st, so you can see what you are doing with the TV drive. Set TV drive to HD component output, then change your screen so that the input is component & you should get a picture that you can tell straight away is far better. Hope this makes sense.

Hi - nice to get a reply! It makes perfect sense but I've tried every possible combination now, still no joy. The TV does not recognise a valid component signal is being passed to it as it will only cycle between either standard AV or RGB/AV - the 3rd option of AV/COMPONENT is not available. If I manually reboot the TV drive box and hold the stop/play buttons etc etc etc to change to component output, the TV will then correctly let me select AV/COMPONENT but I just get a black screen - very odd.

Do the settings made to the box before rebooting actually make any difference, or does the forced reboot and output change reset everything? I only ask because the optical output switches off every time I do it so I assume everything gets lost, including the output settings.

Never mind - the RGB quality is very good, but if you have any suggestions I'm all ears - the TV is a Panasonic Viera if that's any help.

rebooting should not change your settings. Does not with mine anyway. Sorry I cannot be of more help.
